steve_jobs_with_the_apple_ipadThe world of Business till date has seen many rivalries. We have seen how owners try to just kill the competition by what ever ways possible. Companies try to malign their competitors by directly comparing their products in advertisements. Hiding facts and even going to the extent of mimicking their complete strategy.

Zune and XBox

The world knows how each and every time Microsoft has felt threatened, it has tried to copy every strategy of its competitors and utilized its monopoly to gain market share. The launch of Microsoft Zune and XBox are examples of this simple copy paste act. Zune a direct replica of Apple iPod and Xbox a concept derived from Sony’s PS3 are just the start of the game. Now Microsoft is up and ready to copy the iPAD

Why copy the iPad

Soon after the news broke here on TechCrunch that Apple has sold 120,000 iPads and as per Business Insider will be selling close to 10 million iPads this year, rumors were hot in the valley that Microsoft is secretly building its next gizmo to conquer the iPad market.

It also makes a very good sense since the world seems to be moving towards more portable net-books and there has been no clear dominant player. With rising Internet usage and faster processors we no more need a PC with a bloated operating system that crashes frequently.

Finally, last night Microsoft has officially announced its entry into the Slate Market. The product is called ZunePad. It will host the lighter version of Microsoft’s new operating System Windows 7 and will feature other Live services too. Not only that it seems Microsoft has openly admitted this theft by claiming “For iPod we had Zune, Hence for iPad ZunePad was a logical competition”.

Apple replies to Microsoft

Apple has openly reacted to this launch for the first time. Confronting Microsoft’s move a senior employee at Apple said, “We are just bugged up with this company. They seem to copy anything we get into. They kill our creativity”. While the advocates at Apple have threatened to file a case, if they find Microsoft infringing any copyrights / patents related to this technology.

Microsoft on the other hand has claimed that Apple has poached many Microsoft engineers from decades now, who were great programmers. What remained back at Microsoft were employees who couldn’t write good code and hence the bloated operating system Vista failed to attract the crowds.

The important conclusion we derive

Whatever the case may be; this rivalry has really gone too far now. The extent to which you can expect these two competitors fight for the geek market share is so huge that, we as a readers are ready to read any crap that is written about these companies. One such example is this post itself. As there were no executives from both the companies to greet BizDharma readers, I would like to myself wish you a happy April fool’s day.

Hope you enjoyed today’s insight! Do comment to let me know your feedback about the same.
